Demographic Growth, Urbanization and the Evolution of Consumer Preferences Have Still Dug the Supply Deficit, and No Country in West Africa Has Been Able to Achieve Self -sufficiency in Rice Despite Agroclimatic Conditions and Adequate Water Availability to Meet Regional Demand. the Region is One of the Most Vulnerable in the World, Faced with Major Challenges Linked to Its Climate, Its Demographic Trends, Its Institutional Frameworks, Its Economic Conditions, Its Environmental Problems and Its Subsistence Methods. with a Population of More Than 360 Million Inhabitants, More Than 55 % of West Africans Live in Rural Areas and Greatly Depend on Natural Resources for Their Socio-economic Development. Faced with This Situation, the Economic Community of West African States (ecowas) is Resolutely Committed to Transforming Agriculture and Strengthening Food Security and Resilience.
