Tenders are invited for concession for VMS-related services and technology for the Marine and Water Authority and Swedish fishing vessels
The fisheries monitoring unit within the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management will procure a concession for VMS-related services and technology for the sea and Swedish fishing vessels. The Control Regulation (EC) 1224/2009 states that member states must use a satellite-based control system (Vessel Monitoring System, VMS) for vessels to effectively monitor the fishing activities conducted by fishing vessels flying their flag, regardless of where these vessels are located. The requirement applies to fishing vessels with a total length of 12 meters or more. The Control Regulation indicates that fishing vessels are obliged to carry equipment and communicate, among other things, identity, position, course, and speed to the authoritys control system. The authority is conducting a concession procurement, which means that the agency appoints a data service provider that provides a satellite tracker suitable for Swedish fishing with a satellite subscription for communication and related services.
