Requirement : Feasibility Study Of The National Orthopedic Device Program (Pnao)
Tender description : Call for Expressions of Interest for the Terms of Reference of the Feasibility Study of the National Orthopedic Device Program (pnao) Despite the initiatives and efforts undertaken by the Government, supported by development partners, Guinea still remains among the countries in the West African sub-region where there are still shortcomings in addressing the specific needs of people with disabilities. Furthermore, it seems important to note that, in the specific case of people with motor disabilities, there is a glaring lack of mobility, thus limiting their personal development, their access to healthcare, education, vocational training, as well as infrastructure and leisure activities. Out of an estimated population of 13 million inhabitants, Guinea has approximately 155,885 people with disabilities, representing 1.5%, among whom those with physical disabilities are the most numerous. Consequently, there are challenges that translate into a high demand for orthopedic devices. The breakdown by gender shows 53% men compared to 47% women. The number of people living with disabilities in urban areas is 52.97%, or 33%, compared to 103,788 in rural areas, or 66%. Moreover, it is important to note that poverty due to low family incomes limits access to orthopedic devices and functional rehabilitation for families, given the cost of acquisition. In the specific case of children, this considerably reduces any opportunity to attend school and pursue a quality education like their peers. These children and their adult parents are thus forced to beg at major intersections in the capital and other metropolitan areas, even though they represent the future for the country's socio-economic development.
